At ConBud, our story is one of transformation and purpose. We’re proud to have been recently highlighted in a New York Post article, which explores the journey of our founder, Coss Marte, and the values that drive our business in the heart of New York City’s Lower East Side (LES).
Coss Marte: A Story of Redemption and Resilience
Our roots are deeply tied to Coss Marte’s personal journey and his commitment to change. Growing up in the LES, Coss faced challenges that eventually led to his incarceration at 23 for running a multi-million-dollar drug operation. During his time in prison, Coss turned adversity into opportunity, developing a fitness routine in his 9×6 cell that transformed his health and outlook. This pivotal moment laid the foundation for ConBody, his first venture, and ultimately for ConBud.
ConBody, a fitness studio inspired by Coss’s prison workouts, was built on a mission to hire formerly incarcerated individuals and offer them second chances. Its success resonated with the LES community and inspired the creation of ConBud—a cannabis dispensary with a purpose.
The Growth of ConBud
Since opening our doors, ConBud has been a place where cannabis culture and community intersect. As the article noted, we achieved approximately $7 million in sales in 2024. This milestone reflects not just our growth, but the trust and support of our customers and community.
What sets us apart:
- Commitment to Social Justice: We prioritize hiring individuals who have faced barriers to employment due to incarceration, fostering inclusivity and offering meaningful opportunities.
- Education and Advocacy: Through events and workshops, we provide education on cannabis and advocate for equity in the industry.
- Community Focus: Located in the LES, we’re proud to celebrate and contribute to the neighborhood’s rich cultural heritage.
Cannabis as a Catalyst for Change
Cannabis is more than a product—it’s a platform for change. As the article highlights, our mission is about breaking stigmas, rewriting narratives, and creating opportunities.
From our hiring practices to our educational initiatives, every aspect of ConBud is designed to support those who deserve a second chance. We’re proud to be part of a broader movement advocating for equity in the cannabis industry and beyond.
What’s Next for ConBud?
Looking ahead, we’re excited to deepen our community initiatives, host more educational events, and continue advocating for social justice. Our vision extends beyond cannabis sales—we’re here to create a lasting legacy of positive change in the LES and beyond.
We’re grateful for the support of our customers and community. Together, we’re showing that second chances can lead to incredible achievements. If you haven’t yet experienced ConBud, we invite you to visit us. Discover our curated cannabis products, attend our community events, and join us in building a brighter future for the LES.
